Description

Ok, so having been away from doing art for so long (plus with 2017 almost near the end), I figured that some big pieces of fanart were in order. So, I figured, why not do some artwork involving OCs; especially ones made by other Deviants on this site. So, in this case, I have two pieces in mind. One of which, as you guess, involves "baddies" (I put that in quotes because of certain characters). So, here's the roster:

1) Malice (bottom center) by :iconkostmeyer: - Been a big fan of this guy's work, whose especially known for his main hero Vigil! It's always fun to see stuff that's he's posted, plus he's featured my characters in some stuff (including commissions), so I figured that one of the OCs featured would be one of his. Of course, Malice is not a mastermind villain, but more of an elite warrior serving a big honcho villain; but hey, not everyone's vying for top dog. I guess you can say she lacks the "malice" to be an antagonist!  Ba-dum, CHING (Yes Kost, feel free to find a way to bash me for that horrible pun! :XD: )

2) Dr. Shock (bottom right) by :iconbogmonster: - Boggy's another well known artist on DA, especially through :icondeviantuniverse:, and is well known for such heroes as Great-Man and Vicky Velocity. Also, there's Dr. Shock, so what can go wrong with adding a mad scientist to the mix, right?

3) Asclepus the Lesser (bottom left) by :iconlatroma: - So we have a "lovecraftian-esque" character thrown into the mix. Now, I'm not going to lie, but I'm not really into Lovecraftian horror. Not because it's scary, mind you, but I really find it as one of the most overrated things that I have ever seen/read in my entire life. But I'm not going to go into detail explaining my thoughts because that would require me to write an essay that fully details the problems of Lovecraftian horror; and essays are not quick to type up, mind you, especially when you have other, more important, things to attend to (So don't worry lovecraftian fans, I'm not going to bash your "unfathomable horrors"...at least not any time soon, so you can hold back on the pitch forks, torches and hateful comments! :XD: ). That and we're talking about characters, moving on! Now, you may ask: Why include such a character on this roster? Well:

A) :iconlatroma: has been an awesome person to work with, and hopefully we get more chances to work together in the future. Plus, he (along with others) are doing a comic which features some of my robotic minions. So, this is a little "thank you" in that regard.

B) Asclepus comes off as a character that amuses me because he's someone who serves an "incomprehensible being" (incomprehensible being the key word), believes himself to be above others (even seeing "good vs. evil" as a joke), yet has to rely on "lesser beings" to fulfill his goals (as far as I've seen it so far).

C) That and Valefar bit the dust a while back, so I guess that's another reason to feature Asclepus.

When it came to drawing Asclepus, I actually took notes from :iconkostmeyer: and refer to this page:  Vigil: Nexus Sigma page 7 by Kostmeyer. With how Ascelpus was depicted, with ragged clothes that was "decaying", it felt fitting.

4) Omega (middle left) by :iconmadmonkeydane: - And now ladies and gentleman, the next being to featured is a powerful naga with a severe case of god complex, I give you: Omega. I chose to feature Omega mainly because he was the big baddie in the :icondeviantuniverse: crossover that I first participated in: "Omega Rising", so I felt it appropriate to have a nice callback to the character. That and he was the easiest to draw out of everyone! Outside of his bio, we don't know an entire lot of Omega's backstory. Whether or not that may change in the future is yet to be seen, but it'd be nice to learn more about this "slithering" character.  Ba-dum, CHING

5) Psi-Void (middle...middle) by :iconmja42x: - So, considering that this is a list of big baddies, and I have participated in the DU, I think it's safe to say that featuring a character created by the very founder of :icondeviantuniverse:. So we have the conqueror of worlds, an infamous galactic warlord, and a guy whom I suspect has an endless supply of "Get out of Death Free Cards"! I give you: Psi-Void! Now, for those who know the character, you might notice that I did not draw his armour. May seem kind of lazy, but I figured that emphasizing the cape was effective for this shot. Now, he may appear a little short (especially in comparison to the figures to his left and right), but to be fair: he isn't really that big in regards to villain heights; as he's only 6'5.

6) Delta-King (middle right) by :iconbranded-curse: - Guy's been very supportive and all that...seriously how many times have I mentioned this? Well, it should still be mentioned anyways...so thanks for the support dude! :D

So, in terms of big baddies, I felt it appropriate to feature Delta-King, because he would be in the same row as Psi-Void and Omega. Also...second time I drew Delta-King; where he's yet to be drawn by anyone else. Hey BC, I guess it's safe to say that your villainous king is getting quite the "royal treatment"  Ba-dum, CHING

Anyways, thank you for your continued support.

7) The "Leader" (Top) by :iconzorzathir: - So, I figured that since this was drawn by me, might as well feature one of my characters. In this case, I figured that the "Leader" of the Legionnaire would be suitable considering some of the other big names on this list. Currently, we know nothing of this mysterious character, as well as what his plans are and just how dangerous he could potentially be.

Well...I should probably get my story stuff started in the coming year so that we can actually get to it! :XD:

(Holy Jesus, did I blabber on for a while! 0_0. Wonder how many have not fallen asleep by the end of this.)

---------------------------

So, there's my first piece (of two) that I've done to end off the year. Thank you guys for the support. I hope you enjoy, and for the people whose characters I've featured; don't be too mad if I f***ed up your characters somehow. :XD:

Very belatedly, but thank you for this.

As a note - we agree on Lovecraft.  He's extremely overrated, and the mythos in particular is overrated.  The overarching mythos focused upon the sort of 'world setting' that he tapped into (as he wasn't the first to write from it in general.  Others, like Robert Chambers (who wrote the King in Yellow when Lovecraft was still 5), set a lot of the foundational work that he drew upon and later writers took.  Several of these others aren't nearly as high caliber, and while there's good material in the sub genre, the truth is that it tends to be extremely hyped up when it isn't necessarily justified.

Lovecraft was at his best when he was vague, and this applies to most of the other artists.  Where you aren't 100% sure what's really going on, what the powers of what you're facing really are, and what their motives and natures are.  His surreal horror is, by far, his best work, and his mythos is some of his weakest (with the main exception being Innsmouth itself.).  The problem is, really, that he fills in too many blanks and tells you too much.  It takes away from the abject horror of dealing with a monster you can't possibly comprehend, and just trying to will drive you slowly insane by the world's standards.

And yes, there is an aspect of Asclepus that is sort of meant to be an 'in-joke.'  He works through agents, whether because he needs to, or because of choice.  This results in him constantly pulling a "Next Time, Gadget!" and leaving the audience scratching its head on whether or not he's really making progress.  He can claim to have plans spanning eons, but that sort of long-game means that he sometimes comes off as dangerous but not necessarily directly threatening in the here and now.  This, along with an ego that dwarfs any character that I have can make him both very sinister and, at times, a bit amusing.  That he is aware of this probably only adds to the humor.
